Eye of the Liger

(Picture from National Geographic)

The liger is an impressive member of the big cat family.  Possibly most famous for being mentioned in Napoleon Dynamite, a liger is the offspring of a male lion and a female tiger.  This combination of big cats does not occur in the wild as the ranges of these creatures do not overlap.  The liger is the largest cat in the world, which unfortunately means that many times a tigress may struggle to give birth.  The breeding of ligers is considered harmful by many conservation organizations and many defects are often found in young cubs.  I do not condone ligering (I’m pretty sure that’s what its called) and am happy that many zoos have banned the practice.  Anyway, all of this is to setup my latest attempt at songwriting.  This song can be sung to the tune of Survivor’s “Eye of the Tiger”.  With apologies to Frankie Sullivan, here is “Eye of the Liger”.

Eye of the Liger
(To the tune of “Eye of the Tiger”)

Rising up, tasting the meat
Took my time, did some prances
Ran the distance, now I’m back on my feet
Just a cat and his will to survive

So many times, it happens so fast
You trade your dinner for glory
Don’t lose your grip on the prey of the past
You must fight so that they’re not alive

It’s the eye of the liger
It’s the thrill of the bite
Rising up to extinguish all our rivals
And the last known survivor
Stalks his prey in the night
And he’s watching us all with the eye of the liger

Face to face, out in the heat
Fighting tough, staying hungry
The wildebeest try to kick with their feet
We will kill with great skill to survive

It’s the eye of the liger
It’s the thrill of the bite
Rising up to extinguish all our rivals
And the last known survivor
Stalks his prey in the night
And he’s watching us all with the eye of the liger

Rising up, straight to the giraffe
Ate the guts, it got gory
Went for seconds, now the hyenas laugh
Just a cat and his will to survive

It’s the eye of the liger
It’s the thrill of the bite
Rising up to extinguish all our rivals
And the last known survivor
Stalks his prey in the night
And he’s watching us all with the eye of the liger

The eye of the liger
The eye of the liger
The eye of the liger
The eye of the liger
